Abstract/Notes It has been ten years since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and such a disappointment that so little progress has been made in the actual status of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and people’s access to affordable and comprehensive SRH services. Participants in this ICPD monitoring study were shocked and angry to discover that as a consequence of this slow progress since Cairo, one million women have died unnecessarily in the eight countries that participated in this study due to unsafe abortion, pregnancy or childbirth. This report presents findings from the only study in Asia, and one of the few globally, to provide much needed evidence on ICPD progress in time for the 10 year review.
